Welcoming Refugees
Are you interested in welcoming and caring for the refugees in our community? Here are some ways to get involved.
Donate furnishings: When Magnify co-sponsors a family, we furnish their house or apartment. We have a storage unit where we keep donations for current and future refugee families. For more information or to donate, contact Sharon VandeKopple at [email protected] or 616.706.3701
Be a team member: Twice a year we co-sponsor a refugee family. We gather a team of people who are willing to welcome a refugee family by helping them acclimate to their new lives in West Michigan. This is a life changing, six month commitment for individuals and families.
Education: Church World Service, a faith-based organization that serves refugees, offers educational opportunities. Weekly webinars are free and cover a broad spectrum of topics related to refugees worldwide. Register here: Engage – Refugee Welcome Collective
Vehicles: One main goal of the families we co-sponsor is to help them get their driver’s license and to get them a car. Do you have a car you are willing to donate or sell?
